intermezzo before next Turkey story :)
To leave our comfort zone is something really hard to do, it needs a bravery and a life hunger soul .. But sometime we need to take this path to enable us see things wider and clearer, thus appreciate life in a more generous way as a 'free' human being.
Back to 2007, I'd never imagine that i will resign from my position at G4S Indonesia, it was not the top but it was comfort enough. I had all the things i need, i.e. busy, power, great team, handsome and crazy genius boss, lovely working environment, good products, management support, good relationship with the clients, fancy looks, all the facilities, company car with dedicated driver with unlimited fuel budget, so if i wasnt discipline person i could use it to go wherever i want to go, round the city till drop hahaha. Actually i never apply another job during my employment at G4S Indonesia, there were some competitors offers but i was too idealistic at that time, i keep the work ethic, didnt want to take any offer from competitor and partner. Until the time i got phone call from a head hunter, offering a position in banking industry, she got my name from one of my client. I couldnt take it either, still about the ethic. Then she asked if she could offer me another industry, i replied, yes i'd like to challenge myself at telco or oil industry. The agent informed if i might be going lower grade, i said no problem.
I didnt think thoroughly about all the consequences that i will face, my focus was about the job itself. I went for the IQ test and job interview for this Sinarmas Telecom company. Didnt expect too much, only try my luck since i dont have telco background. No news for two months about the job. Then G4S sent me to HongKong to join Sales training held by regional office for 10 days. Feel so happy to be a part of that Global company. Incidentally, a week after i came back to J town, the Sinarmas called me for further process, i got the job.
The job was more likely the same, about sales and partner relation. However i loose all the fancy thing i had at G4S. Suddenly i had to drive my own car, deal with the traffic, deal with parking lot (i only knew lobby before), then when i give up with traffic i must use public transport, train, couldnt wear high heel as often as before, no more exclusive meeting, no more my crazy team, no more office assistant, have to do photocopy by myself, no more escort at airport when you travel out of town, no more fancy lunch paid by the company, no more wine treat from boss, no busy since the product wasnt ready yet, and i should start from zero again, dealing with unknown market. Why unknown,coz i never imagine before to sell new brand of cell phone in the public places and payment service at shopping mall like ITC.
Yeah, leaving a comfort zone is sounded like entering a hell in the beginning. Its really a life academy, you are new born again. I get shocked many times, so surprised with some new experiences. The worst was when i tried to introduce the phone to merchant in ITC Cempaka Mas, a small shoes stall, before saying further, after hello and mentioning company name, the stall owner yelled at me asking me to go. I was so shocked and i need to drink three bottles of cold teh botol to get myself back. I have been sales person for so many years, and never get this kind of response.
A year after, i realize i am someone different, beside the knowledge of telco product and technology, this new chapter of life give me a lot of lesson, i have become a more 'humanize' person, more social, more patient, down to earth, learn real anger management, less panic, think thank, flexible, wiser and more creative. I am still a lively and spontaneous person as before but this time is more calm and more religious.
I've read lots of stories, many people gain success when they leave their comfort zone, trying something new, quit from their job, struggling and start own business, and it becomes a big business. However, success is not always about money, whatever an 'additional' in you, make you better, make you stronger, anything suffix 'er' could be a success too, yeaa including weight gain hahaha.
Henceforth, if you think you need to try something new, dont wait until you are in a narrow place and it is more difficult to jump, this world offers so many things for you to know, keep learning, born again and you will stay young, though physically you are not, hahaha.
I am still an employee of Sinarmas Group now, and proud to be a part of it, but my dream to have my own business is keep flying, and it should be related with my hobby. Still dreaming of running a tour organizer again (i miss my EO, JelajahNusa) and having a lil cafe which serving my homemade cake and snacks. Recently, i just start joining Oriflame business, since it requires less investment, i use and love the products and lots of my friends make money from Oriflame. Who dares. Their products range are more vary now, and the quality keep improving, the fragrance are more 'trendy' and the business system are far better and fair. The downline who perform well can compete their upline, no more traumatic of the oldest member is the richer, like other MLM. Wanna join?
